Parent Mentoring

What is a mentor?

The term mentor originated in classic Greek mythology when Mentor, a wise teacher, was asked by his friend Odyseus to watch over his precious son, Telemachus, as he embarked on a lengthy voyage. As a surrogate parent, Mentor gave support, love, guidance, protection and blessin to the young chld until the return of his father. Thus, we have come to know mentors as those who gently guide and nurture the growth of others during various stages of their development.

A parent mentor is a mother or father who has experienced the process of pregnancy, the birth of their child, and the changes that come with the first month of life. A parent mentor wishes to offer support, guidance, and an open ear and heart to another mother or father just beginning this journey.
