Postpartum Massage

You finally have your baby in your arms. You are getting to know that new being you helped bring into the world. Along with these joys are the common discomforts of sleepless nights, neck and shoulder pain, water retention, and in case of cesarean section, the possibility of tissue adhesions.

Postpartum massage helps to ease the first weeks and months of parenthood through touch relaxation. Emerge from your massage refreshed.

Postpartum, therapeutic massage can:

bullet Promote more restful sleep
bullet Decrease physical and emotional tension, aiding in successful breastfeeding and newborn care
bullet Provide physical and emotional support for the new mother, allowing a well-deserved space for quiet reflection (or sleep!)
bullet Promote restoration of abdominal muscles
bullet Encourage the recovery of hip bones and pelvic organs
bullet Increase energy and vitality
bullet Reduce scar tissue formation following a cesarean birth
bullet Helps you use your body correctly to avoid muscular tension and injury

I offer two forms of bodywork to meet your needs:

bullet Swedish Massage:
Swedish massage is done with oil while supported by special cushions on a massage table. This form of massage is very soothing and relaxing-many women fall asleep! It is very helpful for relieving muscle tension, increasing circulation, and reducing edema and scar tissue.
bullet Shiatsu Massage:
Shiatsu massage is done fully clothed while supprted by special cushions on a padded floor. Gentle stretching and work along energy lines of the body help to increase energy, mobility and circulation and to reduce joint discomfort.

Postpartum massage may be begun as soon as you desire after a natural birth, or 4-6 weeks following a cesarean birth, with the consent of your physician. Massage can be conducted with your baby nearby or on the table or floor with you.
